TMS and Medicare

Since November 2021, Medicare has rebated TMS for adults with treatment-resistant depression: an initial course of up to 35 sessions, with retreatment rebates if you responded. The quick check below tells you in thirty seconds whether you are likely to qualify.

Rebated by Medicare. Confirmed for You

  • Medicare and DVA have funded TMS for treatment-resistant depression since November 2021
  • An initial course of up to 35 sessions is funded, with a further 15 possible at your psychiatrist's discretion after four months
  • A referral from your GP or psychiatrist is all you need to bring; we confirm eligibility at the assessment

Not eligible for the rebate, no Medicare card, or under 18? Self-funded courses are available, subject to the same clinical criteria and a psychiatric assessment. Ask at your consultation and we will give you a clear answer on cost before you commit.

Could Medicare rebate your course?

Are you 18 or older?
Have you tried two or more antidepressant medicines without adequate relief?
Would this be your first course of TMS?

A guide only. Eligibility is confirmed by a psychiatrist at assessment.
